Eddie

Born in Gloucester, I have lived here for most of my life. I attended the Crypt School and have lived in Serlo Road, Podsmead, Westgate Street and in Churchdown. I have always been proud of the City of Gloucester, hence this new site.

I was born in Gloucester Royal hospital in 1949 and lived my first 3 years in Westgate Street. I was a forces baby so my family were sent to Germany where we lived for 5 years. We then cam back to Gloucester when I was nearly 8 and lived with my grandparents at Serlo road. This was a typical working class house with an outside loo, no bathroom and just a coal fire for heating.

My grandfather ran a small building business, and I have fond memories of being pushed around on his hand cart that he used to take his ladders and tools to his work. Saturday morning minors at the cinema was a tanner and a bag of chips were 4 old pence, or a bag of scratchings were 2 old pence.

My family managed to get a council flat in Podsmead where we lived for 3 years. Ironically when I passed the 11 plus to go to the Crypt, we were the first to move into the flats in St Mary’s square, right by St Mary De Lode church where my parents got married, I was christened there and later on in life I also got married there.

My first job was apprentice gardener for Gloucester council. Sadly all that is out sourced today.

After many jobs I was employed as n inspector in a local engineering firm and then got promotion to Quality Engineer which meant going back to night School to study the subject and to update my maths as I had to teach the use of statistics to the work force and the management. During that time I created a network for the company ( Formflo ltd ) and wrote a database program to store all the quality records and engineering plans.

After several years I left to found my own company SoftData Ltd and ran that from Westgate street Gloucester for many years. At the age of 65 I sold the company and retired. I spent most of my time supporting Gloucester at the 4 Gates of Gloucester. I designed and created the web site and also run the twitter account. 

Now I am retired and live in Cinderford in the Forest of Dean, but still create web sites to boost my pension
